3 Day Amman, Jersh , Desert Castles

Day 1:

A full day tour to Amman and the desert castles can be a fascinating and enlightening experience, offering an opportunity to explore the cultural and historical heritage of Jordan. Here's an itinerary that could potentially be followed.

The tour could begin in the morning with a visit to the Citadel, which is located on one of the seven hills of Amman. The Citadel contains some of the oldest ruins and structures in Amman and offers stunning views of the city from its high vantage point. Visitors can explore the various ruins and landmarks within the Citadel, including the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace, and the Byzantine Church.

Next, the tour could head towards the desert castles, which are located approximately an hour's drive east of Amman. These castles, dating back to the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, were once used as recreational retreats for the royal family. They provide a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Bedouin lifestyle and the architecture of early Islamic times. The notable castles in the desert include Azraq Castle, Qasr Al-Kharana, and Qasr Amra, all of which were built in the 8th century.

Day 2:

Generally, the day trip begins with a pickup from your hotel in Amman, followed by a drive to Jerash. Once there, you will have the opportunity to explore the well-preserved ruins of the Roman city, including the Theater, the Oval Plaza, the Temple of Zeus, and the Colonnaded Street.

After spending a few hours in Jerash, the tour will proceed to Ajloun Castle, which sits atop a hill overlooking a beautiful valley. The castle was built in the 12th century by the Islamic leader Saladin to defend against the Crusaders and provides a stunning view of the surrounding area.

After visiting Ajloun Castle, the tour may also include a visit to Umm Qais, another archaeological site located on a hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. It was once a Decapolis city and later controlled by the Ottoman Empire.

Day 3:

A day trip to Madaba, Nebo and the Dead Sea is a popular tour among visitors to Jordan, as it covers some of the major attractions in the region. Here's a possible itinerary for the tour:

The tour could begin with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Amman, followed by a drive to Madaba, located about 30 km from the capital. There you can visit the famous St. George's Church, which houses an ancient mosaic map of the Holy Land dating back to the 6th century.

Next, the tour could proceed to Mount Nebo, where it’s thought that Moses saw the view of the Promised Land. Here, you can visit the Moses Memorial Church with its stunning mosaic floors, featuring hunting and herding scenes.

After spending some time at Mount Nebo, the tour can continue to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, where you can experience the unique sensation of floating in its salty waters. You can swim, take a mud bath or relax by the beach.
