Description : As-slat will take you on a long journey back in time. The historical town was back then the capital of Jordan which made it a rather big city within Jordan. It takes 30 mins (33km) to drive here from Amman so is a great day trip for any visitors seeking some historical knowledge of the area. You will feel as though you are in the Ottoman period as you walk town the timid but beautiful streets and admire the houses that line them. If you are keen on architecture or just curious about how they built structures back then, it is the perfect place for you visit including the archaeological museum and the lovely restored building of As-Salt Zaman, which has some beautiful antiques hidden inside. This is what makes the town so unique.  For a long period of time it was the most important town in Jordan connecting the Jordan river and the vast desert lying to the east of it. It has attracted many settlers right back from the ice age with the area enjoying the pleasant climate, plenty of water and very fertile soil. It was and now still is placed very fortunately on the north to south and east to west trade routes meaning it is conveniently linked with nearby places such as Jerusalem, Nablus and Nazareth. The trading atmosphere within the city has helped it to create a nice atmosphere of tolerance and peace. You will enjoy visiting this historical town and will take away a lot after experiencing what it has to offer.
