Th baptism Site

City : Th baptism Site

Description :

Probably one of the most important Middle Eastern archaeology discoveries in most recent years, happened on the east bank of the river Jordan. Archaeologists suspect that it was here, near the Dead Sea that John the Baptist lived. Furthermore, they also believe that it is most likely there where Jesus Christ was baptised. They have discovered 21 different pieces of evidence that lead them to this claim such as eleven Byzantine churches, five baptismal pools that dated back to roman times and caves for monks along with lodges for pilgrims.

The Baptism site is one of the lowest points on earth nearly reaching the figure of the Dead Sea ta 350m below sea level. The air here is humid thick and heavy. Whilst on the banks of the Wadi Kharrar you’re among the Biblical plains of Moab. With sights across the dry, roasted ground, you might possibly be able to make out the cars and buildings of the nearest city of Jericho in Palestine which is across now, an international border. You will be able to hear the chirping birds in the background, some of which are fairly rare, so a good spot for any bird enthusiasts.

The best time to visit here is between November and February. Outside of these months you will be tying to cope with the 45-degree Celsius heat that the sun gives. With this in mind it is best to visit as early in the morning as possible to try and avoid any heat. Anyhow it is a fascinating religious site and is a great place to go for any visitor to Jordan.
